European Union Shows Heterogeneous Views on Climate Goals in 2030
European Union leaders do not seem to be coming to an agreement on cutting greenhouse gas emissions. The climate goals of the prime and prestigious body of the European contingent tends to adopt a common climate law through a summit to be held in December 2020. The objective of the mission is to reduce greenhouse emissions by 55% by 2030. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that a reduction of 55% of greenhouse gases with respect to the current target of 40% would not be the same for different members of the European Union. Some might find it too much or inadequate. The EU parliament tends to set up the target for a 60% reduction, several eastern EU countries do not conform to the proposal as they depend on coal energy in essence.

Taiwan Foreign Minister Criticizes Chinese Authoritarianism, Promises to Support India
China called out Indian Media’s recognition of Taiwan’s National Day. Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, a member of the ruling BJP’s name was mentioned on the posters near the Chinese embassy in New Delhi wishing Happy National Day to Taiwan. Recently Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu states that they are willing to work with India as the two countries possess the same values. He also assured of sharing intelligence information with India. China considers Taiwan as part of its own territory but the government of Taiwan for years has been fighting this claim by the communist party of China. Taiwan also seeks UN recognition which seems difficult since China is among five permanent members of the UNSC and would never allow this to happen.

US Unhappy With Inclusion of Pakistan, China, Russia to UN Human Rights Council
The United States along with Israel seems not to be happy with the election of new members to the UN human rights council. Former said the election to the human rights council should be on the human rights records of those nations. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said after the UNHRC election “Today the UN General Assembly once again elected countries with abhorrent human rights records, including China, Russia, and Cuba. Venezuela was elected in 2019”. US and Israel have condemned the anti-Israel policies of the UNHRC in the long haul. UNHRC overlooked the repression of China in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong. Saudi Arabia could not become a member of this council. Russia and Cuba were appointed the members of the UNHRC unanimously. Elected members will serve three years of term in the United Nations’ human rights council. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan welcomed the election of new members. China has been re-elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council, a 45-membered international body. However, the number of votes in favour of Sino decreased from 180 last time to 139 this year which does not seem to be good news for China on the international platform.
